KENNER - The #5-ranked Rayne High Lady Wolves fell short on Thursday, Nov. 12, during the 2015 LHSAA State Volleyball Tournament held at the Pontchatrain Center.
The Lady Wolves met the #4-ranked Ursuline Academy Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs. Rayne fell short (1-3) in four sets of the match.
“Our passing game gave us problems,” stated Rayne High Head Coach Stephanie Garrett. “When you can’t get good passes, it is hard to run your offense and you just can’t get the points you need to win.”
Garrett continued of her team’s push shown throughout a very successful season that collected a district title. “The girls played with a lot of heart, but just fell short.”
Leading the Lady Wolves at the net during the quarterfinal game were Charlesha Dugas and Tarya Kanonu with 15 and 12 kills, respectively.
Dugas also tallied six blocks and one ace, while Kanonu recorded two blocks and two aces.
Layni Boudreaux was on double duty with four kills while on the front row and 22 assists as she set up the offense with assists.
Katie Benoit chipped in a kill and a block, while Blair Bergeron recorded three kills of her own.
Charlayne Peltier knocked in a kill while also setting up 13 assists for the offense.
Karla Richard received 17 serves and recorded seven digs on defense.
“This senior group was a joy to coach this past year,” as Garrett sayd good-bye to eight graduating seniors.
“A very special thank you is also reflected to my amazing assistant coach, my husband, for always believing in me and the girls. He never gave up on us.”
With the Lady Wolves winning their district, they drew a first round bye, followed by a regional win over St. Martinville, thus qualifying Rayne High for the State Tournament.
