All-Star Roundup: Pony Americans win Sectional

CROWLEY – The Crowley Americans continued their dominance in the 2014 Pony Sectional Tournament Saturday with a 19-1 victory over Iowa in the championship game.
The Americans banged out 16 hits in the five-inning contest that was halted due to the mercy rule.
In their three tournament games, the Americans outscored their opponents 55-5 and ended each contest in five innings.
In Saturday’s title game, the Americans once again started quickly, scoring six runs in the opening frame thanks to three hits, two errors and three walks. Collin Kirsch and Garrett Cormier each had doubles in the frame while Kaizer Lamm logged an RBI single.
Things didn’t get much better for Iowa, which defeated Jennings earlier in the day to reach the finals, in the second inning.
Cormier led off the second inning with another double and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by John Hoffpauir to push the lead to 7-0.
A two-out walk to Thomas Stevens sparked a string of five straight hits which included RBI singles by Tristan Miller, Bryce Gatte and Lamm and a run- scoring double by Devin Mouton.
The Americans tacked on three more runs in the third on a bases-loaded walk to Kirsch and a pair of wild pitches.
Gatte picked up an RBI single in a two-run fourth inning, while Miller had an RBI single in the fifth. Lamm and Gatte also picked up RBIs in the fifth when they both drew bases-loaded walks.
Iowa scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth when Trip Sallier walked and crossed the plate on a groundout by Kane Brown.
Miller earned the victory on the mound for the Americans after giving up one run on no hits and one walk through four innings. He struck out eight.
Gatte pitched the final frame and gave up one hit and two walks while striking out two.
Offensively, the Americans got two hits each from Lamm, Gatte, Miller, Hoffpauir, Cormier and Will Doughty. Mouton, Thomas Stevens, John William Lamm and Kirsch each had one hit.
The Americans now advance to the Pony Super Regional Tournament in Youngsville where they will take on Loreauville at 8 p.m. tonight.
MUSTANG ALL-STARS
ERATH – The Crowley Americans marched into tonight’s championship game of the 2014 Mustang Super Regional Tournament with a pair of run-rule victories Sunday.
The Americans disposed of Erath, 19-1, early Sunday morning before shutting out Kinder, 11-0, later in the day.
Against Erath, Hunter Hoffpauir struck out seven and gave up one hit in three innings to earn the victory.
Lucas Simon worked the final inning and gave up one run on one hit and two walks.
Hoffpauir also led the Americans at the plate with four hits, including a double and a home run. Luke Hoffpauir and Alex Stevens added three hits each; Andrew Thibodeaux and Blake Francis had two hits each and Simon, Parker Story, Andrew Mouton and Davin Langley each had one.
Stevens picked up the victory over Kinder after tossing a one-hit shutout. He walked three and struck out seven.
Luke and Hunter Hoffpauir each had three hits in that contest while Stevens, Thibodeaux and Simon each had two. Story rounded out the offense with one hit.
The Crowley Nationals also made a run in the Super Regional. They defeated BYAA, 14-13, Saturday after trailing 8-0 in the second inning.
On Sunday, however, the locals were eliminated after dropping a pair of contests to Kinder (15-5) and Rayne (12-1).
BRONCO ALL-STARS
YOUNGSVILLE – The Bronco Americans are on the verge of a clean sweep in the 2014 Bronco Super Regional Tournament following an 11-0 victory over Rayne Sunday.
The Americans advanced to last night’s championship game with the victory, but results of that contest were not available at press time.
Against Rayne, Barrett Harrington tossed five scoreless innings while striking out eight to earn the victory.
Colby Wison led the charge offensively with three hits and two RBI while Ben Broussard had two hits and two RBI. Andrew Ashby also had two hits and Jack Faulk singled and drove in two runs. Harrington and Gavin LeBlanc each added a single and an RBI; Zack Lamm had one hit and Matt Bernard plated a run with a squeeze bunt.
PINTO ALL-STARS
YOUNGSVILLE – The Pinto All-Stars finished fourth in the 2014 Super Regional after splitting a pair of games Sunday. They defeated Loreauville 13-11 in the morning before falling to Kinder, 17-7 later in the day.
No details of those games were available.
