CHS' Broussard tops long list of Grid Stars

CROWLEY – On a night that saw Crowley High lose three fumbles, the saving grace was once again Pate Broussard.
The junior quarterback was spot on through the air, completing 13 of 20 pass attempts for 175 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Gents to a 45-12 victory over the Opelousas Tigers.
His efforts were more than enough to earn him top honors on this week’s edition of Grid Stars.
Broussard was nearly perfect in the first half, completing 10 of 14 pass attempts for 113 yards and three touchdowns.
He hit Jacq’Co Price for two scores, the first from nine yards out and the other from 26, and he connected with Mikal Hebert on a 17-yard scoring strike.
His second half touchdown pass went for 39 yards to Terrell Thomas.
Broussard also had four rushes for 14 yards.
Broussard, however, wasn’t the only Gent to push for top honors this week.

Jacq’Co Price also had a big night for the Gents with two catches for 36 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, Ja’Juan Delco had an outstanding night. The senior nose guard recorded 10-plus tackles, including three sacks, and a number of quarterback hurries.
Not to be outdone, place kicker Andrew Simon had a career night with five of his six kickoffs sailing into the end zone for touchbacks. He also drilled a 29-yard field goal, was 6-for-6 on his extra point attempts and had one punt for 40 yards.
Other standout performances were turned in by Church Point’s Christian Veronie and Troy Matte, Notre Dame’s Damon Comeaux, Rayne’s Jaylon Reed and John Michael Besse and Iota’s Kade Covalt and Kaleb Guillory.
Veronie and Matte each delivered in a big way to lead the Bears to an impressive 41-3 victory over North Vermilion Friday.

He connected with Frederick Williams on a 68-yard scoring strike and also hit John Wyatt Treme for a touchdown from six yards out.
Comeaux received the bulk of the carries for the Pios when starter Lance Bertrand went out with an injury during a 56-28 loss to Catholic High of New Iberia Thursday.
The senior tailback rushed 16 times for 149 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. He also had one reception for six yards.
