Church Point rallies past Loreauville

CHURCH POINT – The  eighth-ranked Bears exploded for 27 points in the third period as Church  Point rolled to a 49-33 win over Loreauville on Friday night.
After the Tigers took a 7-0 lead on an 8-yard pass from Jared Henry to Rhasid Bonnette, Church Point’s Kian Richard nailed a 37-yard field goal  to close the gap to 7-3 with 6:04 left in the first period.
Christian Veronie hauled in a 31-yard pass from Troy Matte and Richard hit the PAT to push the Bears ahead, 10-7.
Shar’ahn Lee scored on a 4-yard run to give LHS a 13-10 advantage.
The Bears responded when Deion Monroe caught a 30-yard scoring pass from Matte as Church Point led, 16-13 with 7:41 left in the first half.
LHS’ Henry (20-93) scored on a 2-yard run in the closing seconds to push the Tigers ahead, 19-16 at the break.
Monroe scored on a 5-yard run and Richard made the PAT to give the Bears a 23-19 advantage with 9:55 left in the third period.
Henry (9-18-1,  227) connected with Bryson Broussard for a 33-yard touchdown and Carlos Rozas hit the PAT as the Tigers led 26-23.
Veronie scored on a 24-yarder and Frederick Williams scored on a 40-yard run as Richard’s PAT pushed the Bears ahead, 36-26.
Veronie added a 58-yard romp and Richard’s PAT gave the Bears a 43-26 lead with 24 seconds left in the third frame.
Kendall Maxie (15-135) scored on a 10-yard run and Rosas’ kick closed the gap to 43-33 with 7:53 left in the game.
Williams sealed the win for the Bears on a 80-yard run with 1:48 remaining in the game.
Veronie finished with 170 yards on 12 carries and three touchdowns for the Bears.
Williams chipped in 124 yards on five carries, while Monroe had 52 yards on 15 carries.
Matte completed 11-of-16 for 142 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
Loreauville finished with 275 yards on the ground and 227 yards passing.
Church Point had 357 yards rushing and 148 through the air.
Church Point (4-0) travels to North Vermilion this week.
