FIELD OF DREAMS - Rayne baseball players of the late 1940’s who were part of a attempted revival of the Rayne Rice Birds semi-pro baseball program following WWII included, front row, from left, Ted Andrus, Chick Morgan, George Boudreaux, Angelo Pizzolatta and Hampton Boudreaux; top row, Coach Joe Duclos, Herman Berken, Charles “Moon” Chappuis, Dave Petitjean, “Chief Rice Bird” Leland Hebert and Pint Simoneaux. NOTE: This picture was taken at the present-day South Rayne Elementary School, site of a baseball diamond and extensive bleachers where the Rayne Rice Birds played their home games in front of many spectators in the early 1900’s prior to the start of WWII.
