Gents upend Assumption

CROWLEY - The Crowley Gents posted two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally past Assumption and advance to the regional round of the Class 4 playoffs with a 4-3 victory at Miller Stadium.
The Gents trailed 3-2 entering the final frame and scored two runs on two hits, one walk and a pair of sacrice bunts.
Mackay Mouton started the rally with a leadoff single in the seventh and stole second. Cable Istre followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Mouton to third before Mouton scored on a single to left by Andre Larry to tie the game.
Pate Broussard then singled to left field and Christian Breaux plated the eventual winning run on another sacrifce bunt.
Mouton, pitching in relief of Ben Broussard, got out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh with a pair of strike outs amd Assumption was caught stealing for the final out of the game.
Mouton picked up the victory after giving up one run on two hits and three walks. He struck out five in five innings. Broussard worked the first wo frames on the mound and gave up two unearned runs on no hits and three walks. He struck out five.
Pate Broussard led the Gents at the plate with two hits while Mouton had a home run. Larry added a single and an RBI while Luke Ancelet also singled.
Jonathan Theriot had an RBI single for Assumption and Drake Veros had a single in the seventh inning.
The No. 15 seeded Gents will travel to No. 2 West Ouachita on Wednesday in a regional contest.
