Lady Pios, CHS Ladies log victories in Lafayette tourneys
LAFAYETTE – The Notre Dame Lady Pios picked up a pair of victories over the weekend at the St. Thomas More Tournament.
After dropping an 8-7 decision to Class 5A Acadiana on Friday, the Ladies Pios rebounded with a 6-5 victory over NISH and an 8-0 shutout of St. James, both on Saturday.
In the first game Saturday, the Lady Pios pushed across four runs in the first inning and two in the second to take a 6-0 advantage.
NISH rallied for four runs in the top of the third inning and then pushed across another run in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-5.
The Lady Yellow Jackets got two runners on in the seventh inning, but starting pitcher Brittney Nolan got out of the jam on a fielder’s choice to end the game.
Nolan earned the victory in the circle after surrendering five runs on five hits and five walks. She struck out three.
Grace Doucet, Elise LeBeouf and Mary Kaye Bourgeois each logged two hits for the Lady Pios while Nolan, Taylor Satchell, Paityn Desselle and Mary Helen Hundley each had one.
Marcella Gossen took to the circle in the second and final game and pitched a gem, allowing just four hits. She walked two and struck out six in blanking St. Joseph’s.
The Lady Pios’ offense gave her more than enough run support by banging out 10 hits in the contest.
The Lady Pios took a 1-0 lead after the first inning before tacking on three more runs in the second frame. They then broke loose for four runs in the sixth inning.
Gossen and Bourgeois also led the Pios at the plate with two hits each. Elise LeBeouf followed with a home run and three RBI while Gracie Doucet singled and drove in two runs. Satchell also had a run-scoring single while Madison Jacques, Desselle and Melise Gossen each had a single.
The Lady Pios banged out 34 hits during the three tournament games.
Doucet and Satchell led the charge with five hits each. Doucet also had a double and drove in five runs while Satchell had three doubles, one home run and four RBI. LeBeouf added four hits, including a home run and three RBI while Desselle and Bourgeois each had four hits and one RBI. Nolan also collected four hits, one being a double.
Marcella Gossen logged two singles and a double and Madison Jacques had three singles. Melise Gossen and Hundley rounded out the offense with one hit each.
The Lady Pios will return to action today when they travel to New Iberia to take on Catholic High at 4 p.m.
CHS Ladies go 2-1
LAFAYETTE – The Crowley Ladies improved to 3-1 on the season over the weekend with a pair of victories at the Lafayette High Tournament.
After dropping an 18-14 decision to Lafayette High on Friday, the Ladies picked up a 13-12 victory over St. Martinville Saturday morning.
The Ladies racked up 13 hits in the victory, with Kaitlyn Killmer leading the charge with a 3-for-4 performance that included a double, a home run and four RBI. Bailee Villejoin also had a big day with three hits and three RBI.
Melaina Doughty followed with two hits, including a triple and two RBI; Maddie LeBouef had a double, a triple and one RBI; Hannah Hart added a single, a double and one RBI and Lauren Breaux had a single.
Eric Thibodeaux earned the victory in the circle after surrendering 12 runs (four earned) on seven hits and four walks through six innings.
Killmer entered in relief of Thibodeaux in the seventh inning and allowed one walk and struck out two to earn the save.
The Ladies rounded out the tournament later in the day with a 14-2 thrashing of Carencro.
Killmer earned the victory after pitching all five innings. She limited the Lady Bears to just three hits and three walks while striking out seven.
LeBouef led an 11-hit attack with two doubles and two RBI; Villejoin added a double, a home run and one RBI; Hart was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Aliyah Woods had two singles.
Thibodeaux followed with a single and three RBI; Doughty had a double and an RBI and Mallerie LeLeux had a single and two RBI.
The Ladies return to action today when they travel to Prairie Basse to take on Beau Chene in the District 4-4A opener for both teams.
Lady Dogs off to 3-0 start
EUNICE –The Iota Lady Bulldogs got off to a 3-0 start on the season with victories over Sacred Heart (12-2), Jennings (13-1) and LaGrange (10-4) over the weekend in the Eunice High Tournament.
