Lady Pios cruise past McGehee

CROWLEY – After a 10-day layoff due to inclement weather, the Notre Dame Lady Pios were chomping at the bit to get back onto the diamond.
That was evident Monday afternoon.
The Lady Pios banged out 15 hits in three innings, including seven knocks for extra bases, in a 15-0 thrashing of No. 24 seed Louise McGehee at Hensgens Field.
The Lady Pios, seeded No. 9, will now play host to No. 25 Loranger on Thursday at 4 p.m.
“We’ve been cooped up inside for a while and the girls were excited to get out here,” said ND coach Ashley Ray. “We came out and we swung the bat really well. From the beginning, from the first pitch to the last, they (Lady Pios) all really focused and took care of business.”
The Lady Pios set the tone from the start when they recorded five straight hits in the bottom of the first inning to take a 5-0 advantage.
Elise LeBeouf started the scoring barrage with an RBI single to center field and Taylor Satchell followed with a two-run double to right. Brittney Nolan drove home a run with a single to left field and Marcella Gossen plated the final run of the frame on a ground out.
That was just the beginning for the Lady Pios.
In the bottom of the second, six more runs crossed the plate. Grace Doucet had a two-run double in the frame while LeBeouf and Satchell each drove in a run on a single and a triple, respectively. Nolan added a sacrifice fly and Gossen recorded her first home run of her prep career, a solo blast to left field.
“All the way down the lineup, they all came out swinging the bat and swinging it hard,” said Ray. “Everyone up and down the lineup contributed and contributed well. We did a good job of situational hitting; we had some sac flies and we laid down some bunts, stuff like that. They just all did a good job.”
The Lady Pios closed out the game in the bottom of the third inning with four more runs.
Harley Bellard led off the inning with a solo home run over the left field wall and Satchell plated two more runs on a double. Paityn Desselle ended the game with a run-scoring single to right field.
Satchell paced the Lady Pios’ offense with a 3-for-3 performance that included two doubles, a triple and five RBI. LeBeouf also had three hits and two RBI while Mima Doucet logged three singles. Grace Doucet added two hits, including a double and two RBI while Nolan had a double and two RBI. Gossen had a home run and two RBI, Bellard homered and had one RBI and Desselle had a single and an RBI.
Gossen was the winning pitcher, allowing just three hits in the shutout. She struck out five.
“Marcella gave up a couple hits, but it was nothing that was going to hurt us,” said Ray. “We didn’t need to strike everyone out and we didn’t need to try to do too much. We played good defense and she didn’t walk anyone so I’m proud of her for that.”
