Lady Warriors, Gents log victories

CROWLEY – The Northside Christian Lady Warriors opened up their 2015 campaign in convincing fashion with an 8-1 thumping of Gueydan Thursday afternoon at Hensgens Park.
The Lady Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Zera Hanagriff doubled and later scored on a triple by Sydni Guidry.
The hosts broke the game wide open one inning later by plating five more runs. Brooke Stanford sparked the outburst with a solo home run. Madisyn Clement added a two-run single in the frame and Angel Allen and Leah Monte both singled in a run.
The Lady Warriors pushed across their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Allen doubled in a run and Lily Hoffpauir had an RBI triple in a pinch-hit appearance.
Clement logged the victory in the circle after pitching the first five innings. She surrendered one run, unearned, on three hits and one walk. She also struck out one.
Allen took over in the sixth and blanked the Honey Bears over the final two frames. She allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out three.
Gents slip past Acadiana
SCOTT – The Crowley Gents got out of a few sticky jams Friday and were able to slip away with a 2-1 victory over Class 5A Acadiana in the season opener for both teams.
The Gents rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the first inning and plated their only two runs in the top of the second.
Acadiana’s Brandon Duhon reached base on an error in the bottom of the first inning and eventually scored on another miscue  with two outs, to give the Rams a 1-0 advantage.
The Gents answered in the second frame when Andre Larry doubled to start the inning and scored on the first of two errors by the Rams. Brett Hebert, courtesy running for pitcher Pate Broussard who reached on a sacrifice bunt, scored what would be the eventual winning run on a fielder’s choice off the bat of newcomer Haden Erbe.
The Rams threatened again in the third inning by loading the bases, but Broussard got out of the jam courtesy of a flyout to centerfielder Jon-Riley Mouton.
Broussard picked up the victory despite surrendering seven hits through 3 2/3 innings. He gave up one unearned run and walked two.
Ben Broussard was credited with the save after giving up just two hits and one walk over 3 1/3 innings. He struck out two.
Duhon paced Acadiana at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance. The Rams logged nine hits on the day and stranded 10 baserunners.
Larry led the Gents, collecting two of their three hits, both doubles,. Zack Breau had the only other hit for the locals, a single in the first inning.
The Gents also left runners on, stranding seven on the day.
Other Action
In softball action, the Notre Dame Lady Pios dropped an 8-7 decision to Acadiana in the St. Thomas More Tournament Friday and Crowley High lost to Lafaytte High, 18-14.
Iota was also in action in the Eunice Tournament and took a 12-2 victory over Sacred Heart.
