Notre Dame, Midland qualify athletes for state meets

BATON ROUGE – The Notre Dame Lady Pios racked up 68 points and qualified five athletes for next week’s LHSAA State Track and Field Championships at the regional meet hosted by Episcopal High School.
The Lady Pios’ point total was good enough to give them third place in the team standings behind champion Episcopal (135) and runnerup Madison Prep (95).
Grace Morgan led the charge with a share of the regional title in the high jump. The Rice volleyball signee posted a mark of 5-0 to tie for top honors with Madison Prep’s Alexis Augustus, who was named the top field athlete after tallying 23 points.
Erin Trahan, an SMU swimming signee, also had a big day for the Lady Pios by qualifying for the state meet  in two of the three distance races. She clocked a time of 5:36.12 to place second in the 1600-meter run and then ran a 2:28.41 in the 800-meter run to place third.
Episcopal’s Alicia Stamey swept the distance events, winning the 1600 (5:25.22), the 800 (2:20.65) and the 3200 (11:44.94) en route to being named the top track performer.
Notre Dame’s Abbie Simon also earned a spot at next week’s state meet with a second-place finish in the javelin (113-8) while Josie Lamm advanced by finishing third in the long jump (16-7 1/4). Alexis LeBlance also qualified with a third-place heave of 92-3 in the discus.
Just missing out on a trip to state with fourth-place finishes were Lamm in the triple jump (34-9 3/4), Alyssa Williams in the shot put (32-2 1/2) and Megan Maloz in the high jump (4-8).
Notre Dame also logged a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays.
Margaret Higginbotham, Sydnei Simon, Hannah Rosinski and Mackenzie Habetz ran a 52.12 in the 4x100 while Trahan, Maloz, Brookelyn Owens and Madeline Higginbotham clocked a 4:25.58 in the 4x400.
Also scoring for the Lady Pios with fifth-place finishes were Rosinski in the long jump (16-3 3/4) and Morgan Oliver in the javelin (108-6). Mary Leonards finished sixth in the triple jump (33-4 3/4).
In boys’ competition, the Pios failed to qualify a representative for the state meet.
Lance Bertrand was the Pios’ highest finisher with a fourth-place time of 23.35 in the 200-meter dash.
The Pios’ 4x100-meter relay team of Bertrand, Hayden Bouregois, Bryce Gatte and Zack Miller placed fifth with a time of 44.45 and Bryant Thevis was sixth in the javelin with a throw of 150-3.
Episcopal won the team title on the boys side with 162 points while the closest contender was Madison Prep with 66. Christian Life finished third with 54 points while Notre Dame finished at 14 in the field of 16 teams with seven points.
East Feliciana’s Treydarius Carr was named the outstanding track performer after racking up 22.5 points while Episcopal’s Kevin Tripeaux won the long and high jump and was the meet’s outstanding field performer.
CLASS B REGIONAL
WELSH – The Midland Rebels and Lady Rebels combined for five victories and qualified 17 athletes for next week’s Class B state meet at Tuesday’s Class B regional hosted by Lacassine High School.
The Lady Rebels, who finished fourth in the field of eight teams with 78 points, had nine athletes move on in eight events.
Kristen Breaux led the charge with a winning time of 1:01.23 in the 400-meter dash. She also teamed with Hannah Credeur, Lexi Newman and Jade Boudreaux to win the 4x200-meter relay in a time of 1:52.26.
Breaux also ran a leg on the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams that each took runnersup honors. She joined Credeur, Newman and Brooke Comeaux to run a 54.04 in the 4x100 and teamed with Credeur, Jade Boudreaux and Jacklyn Sims to ran a 4:28.46 in the 4x400.
Boudreaux added a win in the triple jump (31-5 1/2) and she was fifth in the long jump (14-10 3/4). Andrekia Allen was sixth in the long jump (14-5 1/4).
Emma Boudreaux moved on with a second-place finish in the high jump (4-2) while Hailey Seaux and Kendedie Beard each placed third in the 800 (2:46.45) and the 100-meter hurdles (19.38), respectively.
Also scoring for the Lady Rebels were Kate LeBlanc with a fourth-place finish in the 200 (29.70), Credeur was fifth in the 100 (14.66), Emmie Miller was fifth in the 3200 (15:27.80) and Sims was sixth in the 400 (1:10.73).
In boys’ competition, the Rebels, who placed fifth with 63 points, won two relays and placed second in the other.
Tyler Bonnie, Ty Breaux, Griffin Hains and Spencer Richard won the 4x100 (47.41) while Dylan Boudreaux, Hains, Breaux and Richard  won the 4x400 (3:44.04).
Bailey Vincent, Bonnie, Hains and Blake Myers placed second in the 4x200 (1:40.51).
Boudreaux also placed second in the 400-meter run (54.86) while Gabriel Hains placed second in the 3200 (11:18.60) and third in the 1600 (5:01.52).
Vincent also qualified in the shot put with a third-place throw of 34-5.
Bonnie added a fourth-place showing in the triple jump (37-0) and Isaiah Myers was sixth in the high jump (5-0).
