Prep Roundup: Lacassine upsets Midland

LACASSINE – The Midland Rebels picked the worst possible time to have a letdown offensively.
The Rebels shot just 21 percent from the floor, including going just one of 20 on their 3-point attempts in a shocking 39-37 loss to league rival Lacassine.
The Rebels (18-3, 2-1) trailed for most of the night, but rallied late in the game to tie it at 37-37 on a shot by Devin Gautreaux.
Lacassine’s Chase Guillory put the Cardinals over the top with just four seconds remaining when he sank a pair of free throws.
The Rebels, who committed 16 turnovers and went just 12 of 21 from the free throw line, trailed 27-16 at the half before going on a 12-4 run in the third quarter.
Darren Arceneaux led the Rebels with 11 points and Devin Gautreaux had eight. Jake Gautreaux added seven points, Nick Primeaux scored five, Randy Primeaux had four and Traven Guidry finished with two.
 

Lacassine rolls past the Lady Rebels

LACASSINE – The Lacassine Lady Cardinals scored early and often and cruised to a 72-41 victory over the Midland Lady Rebels (16-12, 2-1) in a District 7-B contest Friday evening.
The Lady Cardinals went on a 10-0 run to start the game and took a 42-18 advantage at the break.
The dominance continued in the third quarter when Lacassine closed out the frame with a 14-2 run to take a 63-26 cushion. The Lady Cardinals outscored the Lady Rebels 15-7 in the final frame.
Kristen Breaux paced the Lady Rebels with 15 points and Macy Hoffpauir added seven. Nicole Kraut followed with six points while Brooke Comeaux, Elizabeth Istre and Katie Woods each had three. Tori Craigen and Bethany Lejeune each finished with two poitns.

Lady Dogs cruise past Jennings

JENNINGS – The Iota Lady Bulldogs had 10 players score in an 80-18 drubbing of Jennings Friday evening.
The Lady Dogs (15-8, 3-0) set the tone early by taking a 16-7 advantage after the first quarter. They then outscored the hosts 22-0 run in the second to take a 38-7 cushion into the break.
The Lady Dogs outscored Jennings 42-11 in the second half.
Mallory Faul had the hot hand for the Lady Rebels with four 3-pointers and 18 points. Whitney Landry followed with 15 points while Brittany Johnson also had four 3-pointers and 14 points.
Taylor DeVille, Jillian Boone, Becca Fantroy and Cambri St. Andre each pitched in seven points, Madison Smith and Patricia Deshotel each had two and Cameron Crochet finished with one.
 

Bulldogs fall short

WESTLAKE – Draylan Perkins poured in 34 points Friday to lead Jennings to a 65-34 victory over Iota.
Perkins was a one-man show, connecting on six 3-pointers and six shots inside the arch while going 4 of 5 from the free throw line.
Iota was led by Steven Cooper and Luke Reed with 12 and seven points, respectively. Tristan Fontenot followed with five points and Chase Doucet had three. Landon LeJeune and Curtis Antoine each finished with two.
 

Singer sweeps Northside Christian

CROWEY – The Singer Hornets put a damper on Northside Christian’s Homecoming festivities by sweeping the Warriors and Lady Warriors in a pair of District 6-C contests Friday evening.

Singer slipped past the Lady Warriors, 45-40, in the first game of the evening while the Hornets posted 61-48 victory in the nightcap.
Unfortunately, no other information on the games was made available by the schools as of press time.
