Prep Roundup: Lady Rebels upend Dodson
MIDLAND – The Midland Lady Rebels got 17 points from Macy Hoffpauir Thursday in a 47-30 Class B bi-district playoff victory over Dodson.
Hoffpauir scored eight points in the first half to help the Lady Rebels build a 25-8 lead over the visitors.
Brooke Comeaux scored five of her nine points in the first two frames while Bethany LeJeune, Nicole Kraut and Lexi Newman each scored four.
The Lady Rebels increased their lead to 35-13 in the third quarter behind four points each from Hoffpauir and Hannah Credeur.
Erica Burnett scored seven points for Dodson in the fourth quarter as the Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Rebels 17-12.
Burnett paced Dodson with 13 points while Elizabeth Parker had five.
Hoffpauir was followed by Comeaux with nine points and LeJeune with six. Newman added five points, Kraut and Credeur each scored four and Brittney Perrodin had two.
The Lady Rebels will be in action again on Monday when they travel to Anacoco to take on the No. 7-seeded Lady Indians at 6:30 p.m.
Lady Warriors fall short
WEST MONROE – The Northside Christian Lady Warriors went cold from the floor Thursday and it proved costly as they dropped a 32-24 decision to No. 16 seed Claiborne Christian in the first round of the Class C playoffs.
The Lady Warriors took a 5-3 lead in the first quarter but the Lady Crusaders outscored them 15-8 in the second frame for an 18-13 lead.
Maddy Sanders poured in eight of her game-high 11 points during the run.
The Lady Crusaders led 24-18 after the third quarter and then outscored the Lady Warriors 8-6 in the final frame to seal the victory.
Madisyn Clement led the Lady Warriors with 10 points and Cydni Crozier had eight. Leah Monte added four points in the loss and Zera Hanagriff had two.
Rebels dump Warriors
CROWLEY – The Midland Rebels scored early and often Friday as they closed out the regular season with 74-44 road victory over Northside Christian.
The Rebels took a slim 15-11 lead after the first quarter before out scoring the Warriors going 17-5 in the second quarter.
Things only got worse for the hosts in the second half.
The Rebels outscored the Warriors 16-10 in the third quarter and 26-18 in the fourth to close out the game.
All but two of the Rebels’ 16 players scored in the victory.
Traven Guidry led the way with 17 points and Randy Primeaux scored 13. Guidry also grabbed six rebounds while Primeaux had seven assists, seven steals and five rebounds.
Dylan Boudreaux, Dagan Patin and Griffin Hains each scored six points. Patin was also the rebound leader with 11 boards.
Devin Gautreaux added five points; Taatum Rubin and Dylan Cormier each had four; Ty Breaux scored three and Spencer Richard, Anthony Massey, Blake Myers, Cammrayn Meaux and Tyler Bonnie each had two.
Cole Henry paced the Warriors with 12 points. Tyler Johnson followed with eight points, Ty Wilson added six, Nick Martin scored five, Dillon Hayes and Johnathon Hermann each had four, Bradley Ancelet had three and Caleb King finished with two.
Kaplan slips past Pios
KAPLAN – The Kaplan Pirates rallied from a four-point deficit in the fourth quarter and hit a shot just before the buzzer to slip past the Notre Dame Pios, 51-49, Friday in the season finale for both teams.
The Pios trailed 28-24 at the half before taking a 42-38 lead after the third quarter.
Kaplan outscored the Pios 13-7 in the final frame.
The Pios were led by Claiton Johnson and Ethan Smith with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Tyler Simar followed with nine points, John Duos added seven, Jacob Leleux scored four and Nygel Billy had two.
