Rayne All-Star action continues despite inclement weather

Mother Nature has not been nice to the 2016 all-star season with a number of games and tounament brackets having to be moved or cancelled due to rain and thunderstorms.
This weekend saw the Rayne Recreaion Department host a large boys’ tournament with 50 teams participating in the three-day event at Gossen Memorial Park as anounced by Rayne Recreation Director Dwayne Derise.
During the Rayne Tournament action, the Boys Mustang Americans All-Stars took home top honors as they captured first place honors.
Pinto and pony teams did not place duirng the Rayne Tournament, and the Bronco All-Stars did not play.
All boys’ all-star teams will travel to the Crowley Tournament this weekend, followed by their final warm-up tournament the following weekend at Erath. District tournaments will be held the July 9th weekend in Rayne.
In a somewhat confusing weekend in girl’s all-star action, teams were scheduled to participate in the Kiwanis Tournament in Crowley. But, due to a shortage of teams, were forced to attend the Kaplan Invitational instead.
During the Kaplan Tournament, the Pinto All-Stars were halted in the semi-finals. The Mustang All-Stars placed second as they were halted in the finals by Ville Platte 7-4. The Bronco All-Stars placed fourth among their opponents. The Pony All-Stars did not play due to shortage of teams in their age group.
All girls’ teams will be participating in their Sectional Tournament this weekend (June 24-26) in Ville Platte, followed by the Regional Tournament next weekend (July 1-3) in Crowley. Top finishers will advance to their National Tournament July 14-16 at the new softball complex in Youngsville.
Five all-star teams represented the City of Rayne over the weekend tournament held at Gossen Memorial Park by the Rayne Recreation Department.
All coaches are reminded to submit team pictures to The Rayne Acadian-Tribune for publication, in addition to tournament results and schedules to raynenewslife@cox-internet.com.
