South Beauregard cruises past Iota

LONGVILLE – The South Beauregard Golden Knights exploded for 26 points in the first quarter and cruised past Iota, 45-14, in a District 4-3A contest Friday evening.
The loss left Iota winless at 0-9 on the season and 0-4 in league play.  South Beauregard improved to 7-2 and 2-2.
South Beauregard got on the board early when Colton Fowler connected with Janson Fontenot for a 14-yard scoring strike with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first half.
Shea Holland, who finished the night with 110 yards on six carries, extended the Knight’s lead when he scored on a 40-yard run with just under five minutes remaining in the opening quarter. The two-point conversion upped the lead to 14-0.
Fowler went to work again through the air some two minutes later and hit Holland on a 10-yard scoring strike before Kelly Courville scored on a 4-yard run just before the end of the quarter.
Just like that, it was 26-0.
Things didn’t get much better for the Bulldogs in the second quarter.
The Knights added two more touchdowns - a 32-yard run from Holland and a 1-yard run from Courville - to push the lead to 39-0 at the half.
The Bulldogs finally got on the board in the third quarter when quarterback Austen Montgomery hit pay dirt on a 6-yard run.
Logan Savoy answered right back for the Knights and scored on a 61-yard burst.
Iota’s Kaleb Guillory rounded out the scoring on the night with a 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
The Golden Knights racked up 432 yards of total offense on the night.
Courville followed Holland with 97 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries while Savoy picked up 79 yards and a touchdown on five carries.
Fowler completed four passes for 62 yards, hitting Fontenot three times for 50 yards and a touchdown. Collin Monceaux had one reception for 12 yards.
Iota was limited to just 197 yards overall.
Guillory posted 106 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries while Montgomery had 60 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Kade Covalt added five carries for 14 yards.
Montgomery also completed two passes for 14 yards. He hit Alex Frey once for eight yards and Tristan Fontenot once for six yards.
The Bulldogs close out their 2014 season on Friday when they play host to St. Louis.
