Troop I investigating numerous fatal weekend crashes
Louisiana State Police are investigating five fatal crashes that occurred this weekend across Acadiana.
The latest crash happened around 6 p.m. Sunday on I-49 North near mile marker 21.5. No road closures were reported with the wreck that involved two vehicles. On person was killed in the accident.
In Eunice, an Elton woman was killed late Saturday night after being struck by a car on U.S. Highway 190. Jana Guillory, 30, and a friend were walking in the roadway, when they were both struck by a pickup truck. Guillory was pronounced dead at the scene. The friend, Patrick Noel, 30, of Welsh sustained moderate injuries.
A motorcyclist was killed after driving off the road in Breaux Bridge. It after 5 p.m. Saturday on LA 341 near Lawless Tauzin Road. Troopers say Eddie Bonin, 49, of New Iberia struck a ditch and was ejected from his bike.
A Lafayette woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash on LA 82 in Vermilion Parish just south of Forked Island Saturday afternoon. Monique Vidrine, 22, lost control of her vehicle and drove through a ditch and into several trees. She was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead on scene.
In St. Mary Parish early Saturday morning, another unrestrained driver was killed. Just west of Patterson, on Highway 90 near the Calumet Bridge, Dean Broussard, 45, was driving an SUV when a cane-hauler pulled onto the highway from an access road. Broussard's vehicle struck the rear of the cane-hauler and Broussard died on scene, an investigation is underway.
