Ladies improve in district play, plan ‘Pink Game’

The Lady Wolves Volleyball Team collected two additional district wins last week, improving their overall record to 23-9 and 7-2 in district play.

On Tuesday, the Lady Wolves claimed a four-game win over Crowley High (25-10, 25-9, 22-25, 25-8).

Running the offense leading with assists were Mia Guidry and Layni Boudreaux, each with eight apiece, and Charlyne Peltier donating two.

Net play was led with kills by Katie Benoit (8), Taylor Arceneaux (7), Layni Boudreaux (6), Charlesha Dugas (6) and Niesha Domingue with three. Arceneaux and Boudreaux also collected a block each, and Dugas had two.

In their North Vermilion win (26-16, 25-19, 25-10), the Lady Wolves’ net play showed improvement.

Katie Benoit led in kills with 11, Taylor Arceneaux had 8, Charlesha Dugas downed 7, Niesha Domingue struck on 5, and Sidney Fontenot had 3.

Layni Boudreaux led with 19 assists on offense, with Mia Guidry setting up 13.

Dugas turned in two blocks during the win.

Back row digs were led by Mary Peltier, Katie Benoit and Haley Comeaux, each with 5 apiece.

The Lady Wolves were slated to meet Iota and Church Point this week when they will try to improve their district record.

Pink Game Slated

The Annual Pink Game (Volley For A Cure) will see the Lady Wolves host Sacred Heart of Grand Goteau on Oct. 30 in order to help promote breast cancer awareness. 

As they have in the past, the Lady Wolves are raising funds for the cause, “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”

The team is also selling “Volley For The Cure” t-shirts and for a $50 donation, anyone can have their name or business placed on the back of the shirt. The front of the shirt will have the team’s logo and the back will have all $50 sponsors. The shirts will be pink and sponsors will receive one free shirt, and two admissions into the game. 

“Pink” t-shirts are also available for purchase by the general public.

Someone will pick-up sponsor checks by contacting the number above. Payment and shirt size are due by Friday, October, 12. 

The Pink Game begins at 4 p.m. A ceremony to recognize all Survivors and to remember loved-ones lost to cancer will be held prior to the game. Door prizes will be distributed and  other competitions and activities will be enjoyed.
