Crowley High's Thomas Cavell

Crowley's Cavell making progress following injury

LAFAYETTE - Crowley tight end Thomas Cavell had surgery Tuesday to insert a chest tube to drain fluid (600 ccs) that was built up around his left lung and restricting his breathing.
He was then moved to Lafayette General Medical Center to a Level 2 Trauma Center where x-rays and CT scans showed he also had an injury to his pancreas.
According to Cavell’s father, Jeff, during the three shifts that Thomas has been at LGMC, his chest tube has drained less fluid each time (220, 90, 60 cc).
The elder Cavell said his son’s blood count is improving and he is now able to walk the halls as part of his physical therapy.
Unfortunately, there is no set time table on Cavell’s release from the hospital. Once there is a zero level of fluid draining, physicians can clamp the tube and see if lung sounds improve. If so, they will be able to remove the tube and possibly send him home.
The Cavell family would like to thank the Crowley community for their gracious generosity and outpouring of pure love for Thomas.
