Susan Teresa Herpin

“Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 20, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Susan Teresa “Tessie” Herpin, 57, who died Friday, July 17, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at Capital House Nursing and Rehab in Baton Rouge.

Fr. Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. to service time. A rosary will be recited Sunday at 7:00 p.m. by Kenneth Venable. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Musical selections and vocalist will be Pat Melancon, friend of Teresa.

The world is a bit poorer today for it has lost a very Special Light! Teresa’s life’s vocation was being a Speech Therapist, having worked in many Acadiana parishes throughout her thirty plus years. We will never know how many lives she touched through her dedications to the many, many children she loved and cared for. Due to her employment she met so many wonderful and dear friends whom she cherised forever. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and her ever present “sharp wit.” We are all better for having known her and that is perhaps life’s greatest achievement.

Teresa is survived by her mother, Betty Hanley Herpin of Crowley; three brothers, Tim Herpin and his wife Cathy of Houston, Ray “Tony” Herpin and his wife Dottie of Crowley and Scott Herpin of Kingwood, TX. She is also survived by seven nephews and nieces and six great-nephews and nieces; a very special friend and hero, Randy Broussard of Lafayette.

The family wishes to convey their deepest gratitude to all who have given so generously of themselves during Teresa’s long and difficult battle with cancer and ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease). Special thanks to Duson Elementary school and staff; to all her caregivers with Angel Care; to Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center staff; Plaquemine Caring and staff; Ochsner Medical Center and staff; Baton Rouge General and staff in ICU; and Capital House Nursing and Rehab in Baton Rouge.

Teresa was preceded in death by her father Reginald S. Herpin.
