Rayne Catholic promotes large eighth grade class

Awards were presented and Rayne Catholic Elementary eighth grade students were promoted to high school during Thursday’s Promotional Mass held at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The promotion Mass was celebrated by Fr. Kendall Faulk, school chancellor 

Witnessed by parents and guests, 62 eighth graders were presented certificates of promotion to high school, in addition to a number of distinguished awards.

The Catholic Action Award is the highest award given to a student at Rayne Catholic Elementary. Students are nominated and voted on by their peers and teachers with a boy and girl selected who demonstrates Christian attitude, Christian behavoir, and participation and reverence in religious activities. The eighth grade honorees awarded for the 2013-2014 school year were Anna Clare Gossen and Evan Louis Hebert.

Under academics, the Highest Grade Point Average Award is presented to one boy and girl in the eighth grade who attended Rayne Catholic from first through eighth grade and having the highest grade point average thoughout all eight years. Awarded were Mia Ann Lormand and Ian Jett Bourgeois.

The American Citizenship Pin was given to a boy and girl who have participated in school and community service, show positive attitude toward classmates, school and possess the strength and courage to do what’s right. Awarded were Trey Hains and Leeann Gray.

Welcomed by RCE Principal Fred Menard, the golden anniversary class 1964 of the former St. Joseph High School were invited to participate in the evening’s program. Alumni include Marie Benoit, Dianna Broussard, Katherine Bercier Carrier, Stephanie Moroux Chambers, Barbara Spaetgens Comeaux, Anna Hoffpauir, Lon Hopkins, Gwendolyn Doucet Jones, Anthony Laperouse, James Laughlin, Gayle LeBlanc, Peter Paul LeBlanc, Wally Link, Barbara Menard, Rodney Molbert, John Prather, Lee Prevost and Wanda Trahan.

Alumni in attendance were introduce by Principal Menard and presented a special remembrance by Brooke Thomas, the school’s director of development.
