On Friday, Sept. 5, Crowley Mayor Greg Jones, seated, signed a proclamation recognizing Sept. 17 through 23 as Constitution Week in the city of Crowley. On hand for the event were members of the Daughters of the American Revolution Acadia Chapter Constitution Week Committee, from left, JoAnne Arnaud, Constitution Week Committee Chair and Honorary State Regent Barbara de la Houssaye, Cathy Richard, Chapter Regent Kay Frugé and Joanna Pruitt. Constitution Week resulted from the efforts of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). In 1955, the DAR proposed having the week of Sept. 17-23 designated as a week for celebrating the signing of the U.S. Constitution. That same year, the DAR succeeded in getting Congress to approve the proposal, which was signed into law by President Eisenhower.
