Joseph Wilbert Stutes

Rayne - Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. for Joseph Wilbert Stutes, 84 who died Sunday, September 12, 2010 in Lafayette General Medical Center Hospital in Lafayette, LA.

Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2, Rayne, LA.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Gladys B. Stutes of Rayne, LA, son, Darrel J.  Stutes and wife Nancy B. Stutes, daughter, Ellen M. Stutes, daughter, Shirely Stutes Cook and husband Dave Cook, daughter, Annette Stutes Bruner, son, Richard D. Stutes, Sr. and friend Baina Ryder, son, Charles J. Stutes and wife Elizabeth C. Stutes, close family friend, Eyelyn  Young, fourteen grandchildren, Anne Stutes Matthews and husband Fred Matthews, Jr., Darrell J. Stutes, Jr. and friend Cenia Kliebert, Christine Stutes Landry and husband Brad Landry, Benjamin J.  Stutes, Adrienne Cook Clement and husband Lee Clement, Dr. Lori M.  Cook, Brad J. Cook, Joseph S Bruner and wife Erin R Bruner, Steven M.  Bruner and friend Lauren Credeur, Richard D. Stutes, Jr., Molly C. Stutes and fiance Chad Pourchieu, Krystal H. Romero and husband Jude Romero, Erin C. Stutes, Jacob C. Stutes, eight great grandchilren, Andrew Paul Matthews, Caroline Elizabeth Matthews, Emily Anne Matthews, Jack Christopher Matthews, Jacques Paul Clement, Juliet Olivia Clement, Gage Michael Broussard, Carson  Michael Romero.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Issac Stutes and Azanie Gary Stutes, three sisters, Hazel Stutes Cormier, Addie Stutes Guilbeaux and Sable Stutes Alleman.

He was born Sunday, September 20, 1925 in Rayne, LA, Son of the late Issac Stutes and the late Azanie Gary Stutes.

Mr. Stutes worked for Bank of Commerce as a Loan Officer for 42 years in Rayne, board member of Rayne Catholic Sports, St. Joseph Parish Credit Union. He  was a member of Knights of Columbus and was Knight of the year, American Legion, Lay Carmelite in Rayne, St. Joseph Society and donated time to La Cuisine.

A rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. by the Lay Carmelite and 7:00 p.m. St. Joseph Parish.

Friends will be received at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., Rayne, LA. Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until service.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Darrell J. Stutes, Jr., Benjamin J. Stutes, Brad Cook, Joseph Bruner, Steven Bruner and Richard Dale Stutes. Honary pallbearer will be his grandson, Jacob Charles Stutes.
