Josh Reed to Chargers
Rayne’s Josh Reed will have a change of scenery for the coming 2010 football season. The San Diego Chargers agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free-agent wide receiver Josh Reed on Friday.
The 30-year-old wide receiver is expected to play mostly in the slot for the Chargers and is expected to be the third receiving option behind Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
However, with a potential suspension and ongoing contract dissatisfaction looming over Jackson, Reed could easily take on a larger role with the team if needed. Reed’s skills as an underneath receiver would actually make a perfect compliment to Floyd’s down field abilities, so the receiving situation in San Diego bears close scrutiny during camp.
The Rayne High product notched 27 receptions for 291 yards and one touchdown in 14 games for the Bills in 2009, his eighth season there. A second-round pick of Buffalo after his junior season with LSU back in 2002, Reed has compiled 311 catches for 3,575 yards and 10 TDs over 115 games in eight seasons.
Reed was the 2001 Biletnikoff Award winner as the nation’s top wideout, and left LSU as the first 3,000-yard receiver in Tigers history.
