Debutantes, patriots presented at annual ball

The Galvez Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Attakapas Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution recently presented young patriots and debutantes at this year’s George Washington Ball, the 57th for the local organization.
The ball, which was themed “The 250th Anniversary of the Stamp Act,” was held March 5 at the Petroleum Club of Lafayette. It saw over 200 attendees, and Dr. Benton Cason delaHoussaye presented an essay on the theme.
Among those presented were Tolson Kohlar Frantzen and Nadia Christensen Vreeland.
Frantzen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kohlar Frantzen. He attends the Episcopal School of Acadiana, where he is a member of the math club and the Young Libertarian Club. He also participates in the Cajun Soccer Club.
Frantzen’s patriotic ancestors are François Bernard Enoul de Livaudais of the New Orleans Militia and Captain Elijah Palmer of the New London, Connecticut, regiment. The young patriot was sponsored by his mother, Elise delaHoussaye Frantzen, and his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Benton Cason delaHoussaye of Crowley. His mother and grandmother are members of Acadia Chapter DAR, and his grandfather is a member of Attakapas Chapter SAR.
Vreeland is the daughter of Ms. Nadia DelaHoussaye and Dr. Thomas Vreeland. She is a senior at Ascension Episcopal School, where she is in both the SAGE and Art Clubs, and her mother was a former George Washington Ball debutante. Nadia’s Revolutionary ancestors are Francois Bernard Enoul de Livaudais of the New Orleans Militia and Captain Elijah Palmer of the New London, Connecticut, regiment. Nadia was sponsored by her grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Benton Cason delaHoussaye Jr. of Crowley.
Among the children carrying flags and swords and helping roll in the birthday cake in celebration of George Washington’s birthday was Elise Marguerite “Minnie” Blanchard of Crowley. Her parents are Claire and Brian Blanchard of Crowley and she attends the Academy of Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau. She is a third generation participant and was sponsored by her great-grandmother, Mrs. Barbara delaHoussaye of the Acadia Chapter DAR in Crowley.
The master of ceremonies for the event was Trent Angers. Chairperson was Katherine Hill. Angela Averitt, regent of the Galvez Chapter DAR, also participated in the extravaganza, as did the president of the Attakapas Chapter SAR, Rogers Romero. Ball captain was Judge Stanton Hardee and ball marshall was William T. Rachal.
