First Camp Columbus includes something for everyone
On Saturday, Sept. 19, the Knights of Columbus Council 5499, along with the Ladies Auxiliary, hosted the first Camp Columbus for children with special needs in Crowley area schools.
Held at Redemptorist Catholic School in Crowley, the camp was well-attended and included a variety of activities. Members of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s baseball team were there clocking pitches with their radar gun and the members of Crowley High School’s football team were there to spend time with the campers.
Attendees were able to have their pictures made and create frames for them in a photo booth area set up by Girl Scout Troop 2016, enjoy rides on a train operated by KC 5499 member Jacob Marceaux and have their faces painted by students from Notre Dame High School, who also presented a puppet show.
DJ Nathan Cormier provided plenty of music, and Rick Hessler was on hand to create balloon animals and cotton candy.
