LSU AgCenter hosts cooking demonstration

The 4-H Kid Chef group from Rapides, Avoyelles and Vernon Parishes meets every Friday to learn the basics of cooking, food safety and nutrition.  On Friday, June 27, they traveled to Acadia Parish to visit the LSU  Rice Research Station to learn about how rice is grown and processed and all of the latest innovations in rice production.  The Kid Chef group also traveled to the Acadia Parish LSU AgCenter office, where Tiffany Williams, FCS nutrition agent with the LSU AgCenter, presented a healthy cooking-with-rice demonstration.   Letha Vincent, chairman of the Rice and Creole Cookery Contest with the Rice Festival, also prepared a rice dessert for the kids to try. They were  encouraged to return with entries for the annual Rice Festival Cookery Contest held in conjunction with the International Rice Festival.
