Mable Allen celebrates 100th birthday

Family, friends and church members recently traveled from far and wide to celebrate the momentous occasion of Mable Allen’s 100th birthday.
The celebration was held at Le Grand Hall in Crowley’s Grand Opera House on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 3.
Mable Allen née Pete was born Oct. 9, 1915, in Welsh. A lifelong resident of the Crowley community, she married Blaze Allen, now deceased, and they were blessed with 10 children: the late Versey Allen-Johnson; Glen Thomas of Friendswood, Texas; Leslie Allen of Crowley; Carol Weston of Lake Charles; Lucille Barriere of Houston, Texas; Deola Collins of Missouri City, Texas; Blaze Allen Jr. of Missouri City; Alzena McNeil of Pearland, Texas; Kermit Allen of Crowley; Adrean Johnson (honorary daughter) of Brandon, Mississippi; and Nathan Allen of Chesapeake, Virginia. Allen is the grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother to a host of beautiful grandchildren.
After donning her tiara, the honoree was chauffeur-driven in a luxurious stretch limousine to the event, where the crowd awaited her grand entrance in paparazzi fashion.
During the evening, Allen was presented with a proclamation from the city of Crowley that declared Oct. 3 as Queen Mable Allen’s Day.
Guests at the party enjoyed a catered meal of smoked turkey, rice dressing, candied yams, green beans, rolls and fresh green salad, along with an array of decadent desserts. Guests also enjoyed dancing, with music provided by a live band that traveled from Houston.
Out-of-town guests registered from California, Mississippi, Texas and various points throughout Louisiana.
Allen has faithfully dedicated her life to the service of God and loving her family unconditionally. She has been a faithful member of St. Theresa Catholic Church for over 55 years and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Group. In excellent health except for the few inherent challenges to be expected at 100 years of age, she is an excellent cook and enjoys lively conversations with friends and family.
