The Acadia: Point de l’Eglise Genealogy & Historical Society will meet on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 9:30 a.m. at the Crowley Library.

The guest speaker will be R. Martin Guidry, an Acadian genealogist and historian from Louisiana who has studied the culture, language, history and genealogy of the Acadians for over 40 years.

He will give a PowerPoint presentation entitled, “An Exile of Hope and Heartbreaking Tragedies through the Eyes of Pierre Guédry (1741-1825).”

The presentation will discuss the life of Pierre Guédry and his journey in exile from Merliguèche, Acadia, through Île Royale (Cape Breton Island); Halifax, Nova Scotia; Edenton, North Carolina; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Port Tobacco, Maryland, finally ending up in Cecilia, where he served in the Spanish militia during the American Revolution and died a wealthy and respected man. Guidry will also do the presentation in period dress of an Acadian during the mid-1700s.

The meeting is open to the public. You do not need to be a member of the society to attend the meeting.
