Three-Ten Club wraps up year, installs new officers

Members of the Three-Ten Club met on the evening of Tuesday, May 19, at the Crowley home of M’elise Trahan for their last meeting of the club year.
Assisting Trahan with hostess duties were Sandy Melancon, Bobbie de la Houssaye and Suzanne Gray.
Vice-President Gretchen Ohlenforst led the group in the Collect and the Pledge of Allegiance. Committee reports were given by the various committee chairmen.
Patti Lawrence, chairman of the scholarship committee, announced that she had recently presented the club’s annual $500 scholarship to Melaina Doughty, a senior graduating from Crowley High School.
A discussion of the club’s recent “Spring Fling” indicated that everyone greatly enjoyed the lunch and program held at Kelly’s Landing place. Both Kelly. Hundley and the delicious menu received many compliments and kudos.
Melancon, outgoing president, gave a brief presentation on “Criminal Minds - Nature or Nurture” to conclude the club’s year-long study of infamous historical characters. She then delighted the group by reading a poem that she had composed highlighting the club’s activities throughout the year.
Catherine Hodges, Adele Carr and Esther Trahan, three of the newest members, provided entertaining autobiographical talks in the “Getting to Know You” segment.
Peggy Sandidge then conducted an inspirational installation of the new officers using a theme of “Spices.” Gray, incoming president was presented with a pepper plant symbolic of enhancement. Vice-president Flo Faulk was presented with clove and garlic plants representing zip and tang. Secretary Sissy McNeely’s spice was rosemary for remembrance. Treasurer de la Houssaye’s spice was green parsley because it is the color of money.
Following the installation ceremony, the meeting was adjourned and members then enjoyed fellowship and delicious refreshments.
Additional members in attendance included Carolyn Barousse, Muff Bier, Isabella de la Houssaye, Jackie Fogleman, Leetza Fogleman, Kay Frugé, Brucie Landry, Patti Lawrence, Louise Morrow, Georgie Petitjean, Valerie Trahan, Alice Whiting and Virginia Duson. Associate members present were Wilda Stringer and Elaine Wright.
