Mamou grabs extra-inning win

PORT BARRE – The Mamou Lady Demons picked up another crucial District 6-2A win Monday with a 6-3 eighth-inning win over the Lady Devils.
The Lady Demons (19-9; 8-3) led 3-0 going into the sixth inning, but two Port Barre runs in the second half, and one more in the bottom of the seventh tied the game and forced the extra inning.
Mamou scored three runs in the first half and held the Lady Devils scoreless in the second half for the win.
Lady Demon Katie Landreneau (2-5) contributed three RBI with a double and a triple; Amelia Soileau (1-4) and Sadie Fontenot (1-5) each doubled and scored once, and Amy Fontenot (1-5) doubled, driving in two runs.
Port Barre’s Haley Richard (1-4) drove in two runs; Courtney Hardy contributed one RBI.
Sadie Fontenot (13-6; 5-3) gave up three runs, two of them earned, off of three hits and three walks. She struck out seven batters in eight innings.
Pine Prairie has claimed the District 6-2A title with a 12-0 district record.
Mamou is currently tied for second place with Sacred Heart of Ville Platte; the two teams will battle it out for the number-two position Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Mamou.
