Chantel Delco named 2014 Deb Queen

RAYNE - Chantel D’Nay Delco, a 17-year-old junior at Crowley High School, was named the 2014 Debutante Queen on Saturday, May 3, during the annual Debutante Introductions and Ball hosted by the Ebonite Civic and Social Club of Rayne, Inc. at the Rayne Civic Center.

Chantel is the daughter of Chandra Delco, Leonce Duhon Jr. and the late Cleveland Hollier Sr. Her escort for the evening was her brother, Darius Delco.

She was crowned by last year’s honoree, Alanna Plummer, and introduced by the mistress of ceremonies, Ebonite Evelyn W. Julian. Co-mistress of ceremonies was Brittany Guidry.

Named First Maid was Alycee Loven La’Shae Harris,  16-year-old daughter of Raven Babineaux and Christopher Harris. She is a junior at Jennings High School and was escorted by Cordracus Thomas.

Alexa Nichelle Hayes, 18-year-old daughter of Germaine Perro-Stevenson and Timothy Hayes Sr., was named Second Maid. She is a senior at Aleif Hastings Senior High School in Houston and was escorted by DeAndre Broussard.

Named Miss Congeniality was LaTavia Janeé Cormier, 18-year-old daughter of Liz Cormier and Andre Reed. She is a junior at Rayne High School and was escorted by Javon Cormier.

Completing this year’s debutantes were:

Charity Paige Bias, 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Davrin Bias of Church Point;

Jardin Elizabeth Forman, 18-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marlo Forman of Rayne;

Imari Trenee Jackson, 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Board of Rayne;

Contara LaShae Mayfield, 17-year-old daughter of Jada Mayfield and Joseph Kelly of Arnaudville;

Natasha Lynn Norval Roberts, 19-year-old daughter of Tonya Roberts and Tommy Granger of Rayne;

QuintaraShanea’ Sinegal, 17-year-old daughter of Renetta Dixon and Ronald Sinegal of Rayne; and

Eryn Angelle Washington, 17-year-old daughter of Keisha Syria and Lester Washington of Houston.

Guests were greeted by Roxyanne Guillory, presently serving as Ebonite president, with Jacqueline Wiltz and Stephanie Breaux serving as co-chairperson of the 2014 event.

Named “Ebonite of the Year” was Ella Handy for her dedicated service to the organization.

The 2013 honoree, Queen Alanna Plummer, delivered her outgoing message and was honored during her last promenade prior to the announcement of the new 2014 court. Souvenirs were also given. 

Once the court was named, a toast to the new royalty was given by the 1979 honoree, Paula Broussard Wilcox, followed by a waltz for the debutantes, escorts, and their parents.
