Jeffrey A. “Jeff” Cavell has announced his candidacy for a seat on Acadia Parish School Board representing District 1.

“I fully understand the tough road I’m about to travel,” said Cavell. “However, if we are fully to provide our children with the necessary tools to be successful in this vastly changing world, and, in turn, make our community better, it starts with someone who is driven and dedicated to doing just that. I feel I’m just the person for the job, and I would appreciate your vote.”

Cavell is the administrative manager and part owner of Upland Services, Inc., an industrial insulation and metal building contractor, and he is the qualifying party for building construction licenses in several states. Cavell earned his Bachelor of General Studies in applied sciences from the University of Louisiana Lafayette in 1992.

“It is becoming ever so evident that our children are not prepared for life after high school,” said Cavell.  “Our communities rely on economies derived from a tax basis that the private sector provides, especially our school system.

“Funding for our teachers, school infrastructure, and routine maintenance all suffer when our community does not have a handle on the retention and recruitment of private industry. The fundamental key to establishing such industry in our great parish is the ability to provide skilled labor, something that, as a whole, is significantly lacking.”

Cavell also sees education from the educator’s point of view as his wife, Maura G. Cavell, Ph.D., is professor of English and the director of the Honors Program at LSU Eunice.

They are proud parents of four children. Their oldest daughter, Claire, is a special education major at the University of New Orleans. Their two sons, Nicholas and Thomas, are 2011 and 2014 graduates of Crowley High School, respectively.

Nicholas is currently serving his country as a damage controlman in the U.S. Coast Guard, while Thomas awaits acceptance into the Coast Guard.

Their youngest daughter, Sally Kate, is beginning her senior year of high school.

Cavell was voted as the Crowley High School Parent of the Month in September 2013, and he continues to be an active member of the CHS Backers and Gridiron clubs.  He is a member of the National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers, where he will put his ability to work as the new “Voice of the Gents” during CHS football games this season at Gardiner Memorial Stadium.

He is also very active in assisting the CHS track and field program. Cavell is a member of the United States Track and Field Association and is a certified track and field official, using his certification at various high school venues in the area and throughout the state.

Feeling a need to give back to the community, Cavell believes there’s no better way than to do so than by becoming the District 1 representative on the Acadia Parish School Board.

“Crowley has been so kind to our family,” said Cavell. “This is just one way I feel I can give back to the community that’s given so much to us. I would encourage all eligible voters to register and to utilize their constitutional right to vote on November 4.

“I thank you for your consideration as well.”
