Roosevelt Phillips, Jr.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2015, in the Harrison-Ross Mortuary’s View Park Chapel in Los Angeles, Calif., with Rev. Foster Mijares officiating, for Roosevelt Phillips, Jr., 84, who died October 2, 2015.
Interment was in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.
Roosevelt Phillips, Jr. was born on March 26, 1931, in Rayne, Louisiana, to Roosevelt Phillips and Esther May Phillips, the fourth of eight children.
Roosevelt attended Acadia Parish Training School and graduated in 1947. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Cunningham Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.
Roosevelt served in the United State Army from 1950-1954; he held the rank of Private First Class. His occupation for more than 30 years was truck driving.
Roosevelt loved to travel. To accommodate his affinity for traveling, he spoke five languages. He also enjoyed gardening an cooking. Roosevelt was a strong-willed, friendly and outgoing individual.
Roosevelt Phillips, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory five children, Karen Phillips, Sharon Phillips, Byron Gatewood, Darin Gatewood (April) and Dwayne Smith; three siblings, Gertrude Cole, Dolores Board and Lois Harmon; ten grandchildren, Denise, Natishia, Brian, Leo, Tasha, Allante, Paris, Darian, Dwayne and Angela; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
