Israel Syria announced his candidacy for re-election to the Acadia Parish School Board, District 1, seat with the following statement:

“As always, I would like to thank you for your willingness, to allow me to serve as an elected public official. I am pleased to announce my candidacy for District 1 of the Acadia Parish School Board on Nov. 4,  the position I presently occupy.

“I express my appreciation and thank the good citizens of District 1 and the parish for electing me to serve them as their representative on the Acadia Parish School Board, District 1. During my tenure in office, I have tried to serve the citizens of the district and parish with dedication, determination and integrity. In these days and times, it is difficult, if not impossible or desirable, for one to serve on a governing body without occasionally having to deal with controversial issues.

“I am a retired educator from the Acadia Parish school system with 40 years of experience as a teacher, counselor and administrator. I am a lifelong resident of Crowley. I am a graduate of Ross High School and Southern University in Baton Rouge, obtaining a B.A. degree in education and a M.A. in supervision and guidance counseling.

“In addition, I am a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and winner of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award for the year 2005 for church and community service, member of the West Crowley Beautification Committee, life member of Southern University Alumni Association NEA and Homeland Civic Club. I am also past president of the ASSIST Agency Board of Directors.

“My beliefs are derived from the immense development of problems I have dealt with past and present.

“I highly and without reservation am asking you to reelect me School Board member of District 1 on Nov. 4. Thank you.”
