Ebonites host ‘Spring Bouquet of Debs’

RAYNE - Haylee Young, was named the 2016 Debutante Queen on Saturday, May 7, during the annual Debutante Introductions and Ball hosted by the Ebonite Civic and Social Club of Rayne, Inc. at the Rayne Civic Center.
Haylee is the 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Young. She is a student at South Louisiana Community College and was escorted during the program by Desmond Harmon.
Haylee was crowned by last year’s honoree, LaShonda Delco.
Guests were welcomed with greetings from club president Roxyanne Guillory, with Jacqueline Wiltz serving as mistress of ceremonies.
Named First Maid was Tarya Kanonu, 17-year-old daughter of Tarunye Kanonu and Kareem Bartlett. She is a senior at Rayne High School and was escorted by Jont’e Morrison.
Mar’Shay Sias, 18-year-old daughter of Mary Young and Michael Young, was named Second Maid. She is a senior at Rayne High School and was escorted by Drakkar Broussard.
Mar’Shay was also named Miss Congeniality by the young ladies included in this year’s selections.
The 2015 honoree, Queen LaShonda Delco, delivered her outgoing message and was honored during her last promenade prior to the announcement of the new 2016 court. Souvenirs were also given and past Debutante queens were acknowledged.
The Debs and their escorts performed a minuet choreographed by Jazzmin Evans.
Once the court was named, a toast to the new royalty was given by Jasmine Evans, followed by a waltz for the debutantes, escorts, and their parents.
General dancing was enjoyed to music provided by “Chip.”
Members and officers of the Ebonite Civic and Social Club include: president Roxyanne Guillory, vice president Ursula Hawkins, treasurer Jacqueline Wiltz, financial secretary Christine Freeman, recording secretary Linda Brumfield, corrresponding secretary Jacqueline Wiltz, parliamentarian Stephanie Breaux, historians Theresa Wilson and Kathleen Cook, members Deanna Begnaud, Edra Broussard, Joan Francis Brown, Iownia Francis, Brittany Guidry, Ella Mae Handy, Lois Harmon, Evelyn Julian, Elaine Sias and Anna D. Washington.
