‘Community Celebration’ honors Lady Wolves

A “Community Celebration” honoring the Rayne High Lady Wolves, 2016 4A State Runners-Up, was held Wednesday, March 23, at the Rayne Civic Center Ballroom.
The 6 p.m. special event was co-sponsored by the City of Rayne and Rayne High fans.
The program began with the processional of team members and coaches as announced by the evening’s mistress of ceremonies, Phyllis Thibodeaux, member of the 1990 State Championship Team.
Dignitaries were recognized, greetings were extended, and a special “Fan Chant” was repeated by the audience in honor of the Lady Wolves.
Following a blessing of the meal by Fr. Richard Wagner, SSJ, pastor at Our Mother of Mercy Church, everyone in attendance was invited to enjoy dinner.
Guest speaker for the program was Kenneth Boudreaux, Lafayette Parish City Council.
Team awards were presented by Chester Randell, Lady Wolves Head Coach, as voted upon by the team members.
Elaine “Mama Wolf” Sias presented each team member a towel inscribed with the honors collected during the 2015-2016 basketball season.
On behalf of the community, Acadia Assessor James “Jimbo” Petitjean presented special State plaques to each of the team members.
The evening was concluded with remarks by team captains and Coach Randell.
