2015 Children’s Fishing Derby winners announced

The City of Rayne was again joined by community partners Acadiana Sportman’s League, Rayne Lions Club and Maison d’Memoire, to host the 2015 Annual Children’s Fishing Derby on Saturday, July 11, at the ponds located on the grounds of Maison d’Memoire (Hwy. 98).
The family-oriented event was held between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12 noon. The catch and release fishing event was hosted for children up to 15 years of age with category breakdowns as follows: 5 years and under, 6 to 8 years, 9 to 12 years, 13 to 15 years, and special needs. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Category winners included:
Most Fish - (0-5) Isabella Reiners with 18, (6-8) Jace Freeman with 6, (9-12) Mackenzie Olinger with 13, (13-15) Nolan Olinger with 7.
Largest Fish - (0-5) Isabella Trahan with 1.75 catfish, (6-8) Draken Bellard with 1.35 Gastor Goo, (9-12) William Guidry with 2.01 bass, (13-15) Luke Guidry with 1.31 bass.
Overall Winners - William Guidry with largest fish and Isabella Reiners with most fish caucght.
A number of activities were enjoyed throughout the morning events, in addition to the 3-hour fishing derby with the assistance from members of ASL and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
A light lunch was provided by the Rayne Lions Club to those enjoying the day’s activities.Special thanks to all the sponsors and the many participants who helped make the annual event another success.
