‘Oh! The Places You Go...In 4-H’: Achievement Day set for May 6
In less than two weeks time, 4-H’ers from around the parish will converge on Midland High School for the parishwide program’s showcase day.
Organizers are promising a fun and education day on Friday, May 6, at the school for the 2016 Acadia Parish 4-H Achievement Day.
Achievement Day is a day of education and celebration in which 4-H’ers can showcase their skills as a club and are awarded for the year’s achievements. There are a variety of different activities to participate in during the day. There will be club awards, educational programs, Achievement awards and a club song contest all going on throughout the day. Through these different activities, the 4-H members will have the opportunity to give back to the community, build self-confidence, learn about several of 4-H’s mission mandates and learn many other life skills.
This year’s Achievement Day theme, “Oh the places you’ll go… in 4-H!”, was created by Amanda Cormier, a member of the Redemptorist Catholic 4-H Club. It pulls from the popular world of Dr. Seuss. And, the theme is one the parish’s program has latched onto, especially at its spring activities.
The morning assembly will begin at 9 a.m. with the introduction of the Achievement Day Honoree and club song contest. Four-H members from Acadia Parish will then participate in numerous educational activities. The day will conclude with an award ceremony that will begin at 1:10 p.m. Many special awards will be given to outstanding 4-H’ers and their clubs.
The 2016 Achievement Day Honoree is Aline Hebert.
Her love for 4-H began with her children. This sparked a strong relationship with Acadia 4-H. She then, some years later, started to teach at St. Francis School. This is where she took on the leadership of running the 4-H Club at St. Francis along with last year’s honoree, Lilly Pousson. Pousson molded Hebert to be a fantastic club leader. She has helped St. Francis achieve many honors and awards. She never stopped giving 4-H her all. Hebert has been involved on both the local and the parish level. She is always willing to go the extra mile and help 4-H’ers with their project work, demonstrations and so on. Every summer, she planned a fun-filled overnight 4-H Award Trip for her youths. It was not long until students became more and more interested in 4-H due to her great work.
Hebert is a good-hearted 4-H volunteer that has offered so much to the Acadia Parish 4-H program. The parish program is excited to be able to congratulate and honor Hebert as the 2016 Achievement Day Honoree.
