Crowley Chamber partners with school board for Senior Skills Workshop

The Crowley Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Acadia Parish School Board, held its first “High School Seniors-Only” workshop Thursday at the Acadia Parish Educational Center.
The workshop was held from 8 a.m. until noon with four different sessions including Social Media Impact, Financial Literacy, Interview Skills and Applying for a Job.
For seniors, it can be intimidating graduating high school and not having a financial plan set in stone nor knowing how to budget. Many also do not realize the effect social media has on their future — ranging anywhere from interviewing for a job to something as small as a scholarship.
Groups participating in the workshop-seminar Thursday included Home Bank, First National Bank, St. Martin Bank, Ninety-Two West and CGI of Lafayette.
Cindy Miller of First National Bank and Education Committee Chairperson at the Chamber stated, “As leaders in the community we have a responsibility to help prepare our graduates for what comes after education, a career. Today’s Senior Career Day focused on giving them the tools they need to make a great impression and stand out among other job applicants.
“It was a pleasure to work with the Acadia Parish School Board and Teachers in organizing this event. The Crowley Chamber, along with the Acadia Parish School Board want their parish seniors to be as educated as possible on ‘real-life’ and better prepared after these real world sessions with local business leaders.
“The Chamber greatly appreciates the support of the Acadia Parish community for this workshop and great opportunity to help educate our youth.”
