Field set for Nov. elections

BATON ROUGE – It’s election season in the U.S. and qualifying for November’s race closed Friday.
Not only will the parish join the nation in choosing the next leader of the country — Republican Donald Trump or Democrat Hillary Clinton — but the state will also be choosing a new U.S. senator.
Following his loss in the gubernatorial election last year, Sen. David Vitter, R-Louisiana, announced that he would not seek re-election. A slew of candidates have announced their intentions to run creating, as expected, a domino effect.
Among those announced as running for the seat, however, is current Rep. Charles Boustany Jr., M.D., R-Lafayette. That means that the Congressional District 3 representative’s seat is also up for grabs.
Acadia is also in the voting districts for Associate Justice Supreme Court, 3rd Supreme Court District, and Public Service Commission District 4.
Locally there is one race, Chief of Police for the Village of Mermentau where Amos Crader Sr. ran unoposed.
