Four indicted in connection with April Murder

A grand jury on Wednesday indicted three men in the April 5 shooting death of 16-year-old Perry Dewayne Davis III, who was shot while sitting in a car on West Seventh Street near North Avenue B in Crowley.

A second victim, Deondrick Butler, was in the car with Davis and was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm. 

Brandon Moore, Patrick Moore and Denzel McIntyre will be facing second-degree murder and attempted murder charges for their roles  in the shooting.

Sharonda McZeal of Crowley is being charged with accessory after the fact for her role in aiding a wanted fugitive, McIntyre, who had been on the run since the shooting. McIntyre was located at McZeal’s residence in the 700 block of South Avenue N when he was arrested on May 10.

Brandon Moore was arrested within days of the shooting; Patrick Moore was arrested May 8.

According to investigating officers, at about 6:45 p.m. on April 5, Perry and Butler were sitting in a car when it was struck by several bullets.

Perry was shot in the head and died later at Lafayette General Hospital. 

Thus far, authorities have not disclosed what they believe to be the motive in the case or what specific roles each of the three played in the shooting.

Judge John Trahan presided over the grand jury hearing. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Frederick “Fritz” Welter.

The investigation and ensuing arrests were the work of the Crowley Police Department.

“This is the first step in bringing these men to justice,” said Crowley Chief of Police K.P. Gibson. “Hopefully this will help the victim’s families during their healing process as well as provide a sense of relief to our citizens knowing that these violent men are off the streets.”
