Holiday activities in Crowley begin this week

There may still be left-over turkey in the house, but Crowley is ready for the holiday season with a slate of Christmas-related activities rolling around town the next two weeks.

Beginning with Crowley’s annual “Holiday Affair,” Christmas in Crowley will show off the city’s historic main street (North Parkerson Avenue between Second Street and the Court Circle) and get everyone in the Christmas spirit Wednesday, Dec. 3. Evening events begin at 6 p.m.

The following night, Dec. 4, the Crowley Kiwanis Club will hold its annual Christmas Parade. The parade rolls along North Parkerson Avenue beginning at 6 p.m. and follows its usual route. Among the special guests for the parade will be Miss Merry Christmas Amelia Prevost and Santa himself.

Over the weekend, the Acadia Players will get into the act and present a special holiday play – “Christmas Reunion” – for the whole family at the Historic Rice Theatre. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students with ID and shows will be held Friday, Dec. 5, and Saturday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m.

There will also be a 2 p.m. performance on Dec. 6. Santa will continue his Crowley visit by offering to take photos with children 30 minutes prior to each performance.

Two more holiday activities are slated the following week with the Crowley Chamber of Commerce hosting its Holiday Business After Hours at the Grand Opera House, Wednesday, Dec. 10, and another play will be at the Rice Theatre Thursday, Dec. 11.

It is then that St. Michael School’s third graders and kindergarteners will stage a production of “The Grinch.” There will be a student showing at 10:30 a.m. that day and a public performance at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the public performance are available at St. Michael School for $8 and the night of the play at the door for $10.
