Household Hazardous Waste Day Saturday

CROWLEY - The annual Household Hazardous Waste Day will be observed Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Rice Arena.
The event, sponsored by the Acadia Parish Police Jury and the local emergency planning committee, is open to Acadia Parish residents only. A photo ID will be required.
Among items that will be accepted are:
•mautomotive products, including used oil / filters, antifreeze, fuel, car batteries and tires (no rims);
•mpaint, paint thinners and solvents, spray cans, brushes, cleaners, paint strippers, lacquers, wood sealers and turpentine;
•mgardening products such as insect killer (pesticides and fertilizers), weed killers, unclean sprayers and spreaders;
•mpool cleaners, acids and chlorine;
•mglues / solvents;
•mthermometers and other mercury items;
•mfluorescent bulbs and compact bulbs.
Not acceptable are:
•mradioactive waste, including smoke detectors;
•mPCB oil or light ballasts;
•mdioxin-containing waste;
•mexplosives, including gun powder and blasting caps;
•mDEA-listed prescrpition drugs;
•mbiohazardous medical waste; and
•mhousehold garbage.
