Illegal sale of alcohol charged in Rayne

Two people have been arrested in connection with the illegal sale of alcohol to a minor at a local convenience store.
Chief of Police arroll J. Stelly said the store clerk and a Rayne resident have been charged.
On Saturday, Aug. 27, officers, acting on a tip that the Queen City Store at 1006 W. Branche St., was illegally selling alcohol to persons under the age of 21, conducted a compliance check, according to Stelly.
Officers charged the clerk, Waif S. Salem, 29, of 206 LaCour St., Rayne, with illegal sale of alcohol to a person under the age of 21.
The sale included a half-pint of Jack Daniels whiskey and a 20-pack of Bud Light beer in a bottle.
Officers also charged Nicholas Hans Roy, 20, of 220 Fefe’ Lane, Rayne, with underage possession of alcohol.
Stelly urges all licensed alcohol sales outlets to review with their employees the laws concerning the sale of alcohol to persons under 21 years of age and to review the procedure for checking identification before making a sale.
