Legion Post 77 plans BBQ dinner fundraiser on Sunday, April 10

During Tuesday’s American Legion meeting of Arceneaux Post 77 as announced by Commander David Simon, final plans were made for the group’s annual BBQ dinner fundraiser.
The BBQ pork plate lunches will be sold by all legionnaires and at the Legion Home for the event that will be held Sunday, April 10, at the Legion Home.The dinner will include a pork steak, rice dressing, beans and cole slaw for a ticket price donation of $8 each. A limited number of tickets will be sold so make your purchase soon. Legionnaires and volunteers are also needed for prep work, cooking, and serving the day of the event.
The memorial report was given by Robert Comeaux which included veterans Larry J. Smith (Feb. 7, 2016) and Wilson Thibodeaux (Feb. 10, 2016). A thank you note was also received by the post from the family of Larry J. Smith who thanked Post 77 members for their attendance and service during the funeral.
Under sick call, the following veterans were noted: John Petitjean, Randy Vidrine and Gil Cormier.
Under membership, Ray Olinger reported 184 member dues have been paid or 89% of the Post’s goal.
Welcomed back to the regular monthly meeting was legionnaire Raylin Alleman who assured the Post of his service during upcoming events.
It was announced the bar area of Post 77 now has a pool table for a six month trial period.
The schedule for musical entertainment was announced, in addition to the addition of an increase in bar sales since the Legion Home is now open on Wednesday evenings.
A reminder was given for the 7th District Meeting slated March 13 in Lake Charles.
Robert Comeaux spoke to the audience of the anticipated groundbreaking soon to be held for the new Veterans Park slated on the grounds of Gossen Memorial Park. He noted bricks are still available for purchase in the name of all veterans of all wars at City Hall.
Commander Simon announced the reactivation for the Sons of the Legion Squadron. He is expecting a kit with applications and membership information soon.
After adjourned, a meal was served by the Legion cooks.
