n2y recognizes Doughty for special education strides

A local teacher is the September winner of n2y’s year-long iniative, Kids at the Heart.

Kids at the Heart is designed to highlight exceptional special needs educators throughout the 2013-14 school year and n2y, leading developers of special education curriculum and products, announced this week that Crowley High School’s Christian Doughty.

Doughty teaches high school students with severe to profound disabilities and has been using n2y’s Unique Learning System for the last three years.

Citing the fact that some of his students have progressed to reading simple text, Doughty said that the transformation in his classroom has been profound.

“We’ve come a long way,” he said of his classroom. “We went from sorting silverware and putting pegs in boards to reading, writing and math. The growth I’ve seen in my students is huge.”

“n2y is so pleased to highlight a teacher like Christian, whose dedication to his students is palpable. It’s obvious that the energy in his room is infectious. He and his para-educators are dedicated to providing the students with the tools they need to be successful. We are humbled that our curriculum is part of that process.”

The Kids at the Heart contest is a video contest that will highlight one special education professional each month, sharing his or her story through the company’s e-newsletter, social media outlets and newspaper.

“In my more than 30 years as a speech pathologist, I find that my motivation always comes back to the same place: the kids. I’ve always kept kids at the heart,” said Clark. “And, I don’t think I’m alone. This inspiration seems to resonate with the thousands of n2y customers who share their stories with us. We want to recognize their selflessness and honor their drive through a school year-long campaign.”

Entrants can come from teachers, parents and professionals from the entire spectrum of special education in the form of short video testimonials that detail how n2y products and curriculum have helped them to instruct and connect with students.

Doughty’s winning entry can be viewed here. Doughty will not only be spotlighted in n2y media but will also receive a n2y Kids at the Heart T-shirt. Additionally, he will be entered for an end of the year celebration where n2y will come to the winner’s school and present the educator with a MacBook Air.
