National Weather Service: Sunny, chilly Christmas

Severe weather predicted to move through area today

A chance of severe weather early this week will give way to sunny skies and chilly temperatures for the Christmas holiday in south Louisiana.

The National Weather Service is predicting that a cold front will approach the area on Tuesday (today) and spark showers and thunderstorms ahead of it. The chance of rain is 80 percent.

“Tuesday still looks to be a very active day with the risk of some severe thunderstorms forming during the afternoon and evening hours,” according to the latest NWS forecast discussions.

The highs Tuesday in Acadiana will be around 70 degrees, and lows will be in the mid-40s.

After the rainy weather moves out, sunshine and seasonal temperatures will arrive Wednesday and Thursday —Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Highs both days will be in the mid- to upper 50s. Lows on Christmas Eve will be in the low 40s and in the mid-40s on Christmas Day.

Another cold front will approach the area Friday, bringing more showers and dropping temperatures into the 30s.
