A volunteer at a Rayne school has been recognized for her untiring record of service.
During a reception held Tuesday, June 14, at White Oaks Plantation in Baton Rouge, Rayne’s Lizbeth Pleasant was honored as the 2016 Acadia Parish Volunteer of the Year.
She was nominated by the faculty and staff of Central Rayne Kindergarten and recognized at the event by the Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana (APEL).
“Mrs. Liz” has been an active volunteer at the school for the last two years and volunteers approximately 20-30 hours each week.
She can be seen wearing many hats at the school. She makes copies, monitors classes, assists in the school’s computer lab and cafeteria, answers the phone, and willingly completes any task to help the school run smoothly.
Each morning Pleasant contacts the school to see if her services are needed. She then walks eight blocks to get to and from school.
She is also a committed volunteer on the district level. She participates on the District’s Parental Involvement Committee and serves as a representative for students with disabilities.
Michelle Hensgens, teacher at the school, stated, “Mrs. Liz is always willing to help and enjoys working at Central Rayne Kindergarten. All students know Mrs. Liz and love spending time with her.”
Another teacher, Mrs. Reiners, stated the best thing about Pleasant is her positive attitude.
Christy Higginbotham, principal, praised her saying, “Not only does Mrs. Liz know how to use the copy machine and Rizograph, she also makes minor repairs when they are not working. The school is blessed to have Mrs. Liz as a parent volunteer.”
Pleasant is married to Morris Sinegal, and they have two beautiful children, Miracle, age 7, and Morris, age 5.
“Central Rayne Kindergarten has taught me how to do many jobs that help out in the classroom and school, but most of all they have taught me the true meaning of friendship,” said Pleasant.”
I love all of the faculty and students of Central Rayne Kindergarten and look forward to working with them each day.”
