With her stop in Crowley, her home club, Rotary International District 6200 Governor Dr. Ezora Proctor, has now “officially” visited all 49 clubs in the district.

“Isn’t it wonderful to end this on a high note and visit your own club that I really love very much” said Proctor. “You are my introduction to Rotary, and you have really helped me grow.”

Proctor acknowledged the many projects that have become synonymous with Rotary in the community over the years, such as the Christmas Food Baskets, The Welcome House and the Literacy and Nutrition school program, the latter of which has become a district-wide project through the governor’s spouse, Rev. James Proctor.

Each year, as the district elects a new governor, his or her spouse takes on a specific project to present to the district. For James Proctor, that decision was easy as he set forth to have the district adopt the project he helped see created in Crowley under his wife’s presidency years ago.

The project has only grown in recent years, now being presented to all three elementary schools in Crowley, and the district response has been great according to James Proctor.

“This is the 49th club we are visiting, today, and the program has really taken off,” he said. “I would say that about 95 percent of the clubs have already said that they will be participating.”

Under the project, a Rotary club sees to it that books are presented to second graders in the schools four times per year as well as a nutritious snack.

“This program is designed to not only be busy work, but to help students meet some of the requirements of a Presidential Citation. And it also meets two of Rotary’s focuses of interest – child, health and nutrition and literacy and education,” said James Proctor.

“The program is really catching on and I’m happy to say I came from the club that started it.”

This and those many other projects, according to Ezora Proctor, only show the generosity of the Rotary Club of Crowley.

“Crowley Rotary Club, you are just very special,” said Ezora Proctor.

“You give over and over and over and never ask anything in return for your giving. That’s the type of people you are, and today, I salute you.”

Both Proctors explained that during their travels that the Crowley club has always been with them and the accolades for the club’s work have been sent via the Proctors from many of the district’s clubs.

“I want you to know that I have been very, very proud of Rotary and very proud of my club; as I go to these 48 (other) clubs, I talk about the Crowley Club” said Ezora Proctor.

Acting as district governor, Ezora Proctor also presented two Crowley Rotarians medals of honor for serving Rotary International for 40 or more years. Those two individuals were Ralph Cowen, who has been a member for 48 years, and Kenny Privat, who has been a member for 43 years.
