On Saturday night, the Crowley Police Department responded to reports of shots fired at two locations at nearly the same time.
“We received reports of shots fired at the Kathy Apartments and on West Third Street,” said Crowley Police Chief K.P. Gibson. “Respective agencies investigated both scenes and there was no evidence, such as blood stains, bullet holes, shells or casings and initially we didn’t even have a victim.
“Later that night, we got a call from University Medical Center stating that a man, who resides in St. Landry Parish, had been admitted with a gunshot wound to the leg and said that he was shot in Crowley. When we sent investigators to interview him, he was extremely uncooperative and stated that he ‘didn’t know anybody in Crowley and was just hanging out with associates’.”
While Gibson said he believes the shooting probably did happen at the Kathy Apartments (an anonymous source called in and reported that a man had, indeed, been shot), the lack of evidence and witnesses makes it very difficult to verify with any certainty.
“The man who was shot said that he didn’t know much about Crowley and was only here visiting,” said Gibson. “We are still trying to determine where the crime actually took place and which agencies should be involved in the investigation.”
The Kathy Apartments are outside of the Crowley city limits.
“Until we hear differently, our investigators will be leading the investigation,” Gibson added.
“We are urging anyone with information about these crimes to contact our department at 783-1234 or CrimeStoppers at 789-TIPS. Any callers can remain anonymous.”
