Kelly and Paxton Young will be going on their first international mission trip in July.

The mother and son duo were on hand Tuesday at the Rotary Club of Crowley to explain what their mission trip is looking like.

“I’ve learned you don’t have to have a special talent, just a little heart,” said Kelly Young.

The two are no strangers to mission work, as Paxton, who will be 14 this weekend, has been doing mission work since he was 8, and have been doing projects in Florida, Alabama and other states in the country.

But this will mark the pair’s first mission outside of the country and they are looking forward to the opportunities.

The group of about 20 will leave on July 10 and return on July 22, giving them 12 days – with travel – to make a difference in several Romanian communities.

The group is traveling to assist a full-time mission group in the region.

Among their projects while in Romania, the group will have “sidewalk Sunday school”, be preaching with an interpreter, bring food to areas as well as goodwill and teaching elementary basics.

As Kelly Young explained, there are some areas they will be visiting that don’t even know their ABCs, so this will be a chance to also teach and not just preach.

She also explained about what she is looking forward to most, working with an orphanage, where, among other things, the group will be assisting with the children at the orphanage and working on maintenance there.

The Youngs know they will also have to be wary of the fact that Romania’s culture is very different than the one here. Kelly Young said they would be relying on the interpreters for understanding as well.

She added that she will bring back photographs to show the Rotary Club of Crowley some of the work they will do on the trip.

The club also spent part of the meeting going through announcements and reminders. Club members were reminded to turn in their nominations for the Rotary Club’s next vocational award and that tickets were still available for Friday’s performance of Dancing With the Stars.
